Why ProBX exists now
Many Canadian business owners are approaching retirement or succession, but selling a private business is not simple. Unlike selling a house, a business sale involves confidentiality, valuation, buyer qualification, financing, due diligence, employees, landlords, suppliers, customers, tax planning, legal structure, and post-closing transition.
ProBX was created to bring those pieces into one coordinated ecosystem.
The experience behind ProBX.ca
ProBX.ca grew out of Michael Hwang's experience handling thousands of small and medium-sized business transactions, many of them brokered by REALTORS® whose primary training was in real estate rather than business brokerage. Over time, that experience revealed a recurring problem: the sale of a business is often one of the most important financial transactions in an owner's life, yet the professionals involved may have limited specialized education or training in business valuation, confidentiality, financing, due diligence, deal structure, and transition.
That experience led to a broader vision: to raise the professional standard of business brokerage through specialized education, training, and, ultimately, a meaningful pathway toward professional certification, with the protection of business owners and buyers as a central objective. Michael later developed Business Brokerage Essentials, and ProBX.ca was created as the next step — a professional marketplace designed to bring together prepared sellers, qualified buyers, and trusted advisors in a more informed, confidential, and disciplined transaction process.
Michael Hwang is a British Columbia lawyer, commercial REALTOR®, and former Chair of the British Columbia Small Business Task Force (2018), with decades of experience advising businesses, investors, and organizations.
